Electric standby lets the fridge unit run from mains power instead of the engine. Plug in, and the load holds temperature without anything idling.

Where it earns its money

  • Overnight: load the van the night before and it holds until morning. No 5am scramble.
  • All-day pitches: markets, shows, event catering. Parked up for hours with nothing running.
  • Anywhere idling isn’t an option: residential yards, depots, anywhere noise or fumes matter.

Where it doesn’t

Multi-drop. The engine’s running most of the day anyway, and plugging in for a twenty-minute stop is more faff than it’s worth. It’s an expensive option to pay for and never use.

One thing to know: standby has to be specified from the start. It can’t be added after the conversion is finished.

Tell us how you actually work and we’ll tell you whether it’s worth the money. Sometimes the answer’s no. Call us on 01444 245555.
