Already have a van you’re happy with? You don’t have to buy a new one to get a fridge van. We convert customers’ own vans into chiller and freezer vans, as well as selling our own fridge and freezer vans.
What a conversion involves
- An insulated lining in the load area: 50mm for a chiller van and 75mm for a freezer van.
- A refrigeration unit, chosen for the temperature you need. We fit GAH, Hubbard, Thermo King and Zanotti units.
- Any extras you need, such as electric standby, a freezer slab side door, door curtains, a bulkhead, a temperature recorder or shelving. See the extras we fit.
How cold can it go?
A chiller holds 0 to 5°C, a freezer -18°C or colder, and deep freeze goes down to -25°C. The unit and the lining are chosen to suit what you carry, so tell us what goes in the back and how cold it has to stay. Our guide on chiller, freezer or deep freeze explains the difference.
What changes the cost
Every conversion is quoted for the van and the job, so we don’t give a set price. These are the things that move it:
- Chiller or freezer. A freezer needs the thicker lining and a stronger unit.
- The size of the van. A bigger load area takes more lining and more cooling.
- The make of fridge unit. It also decides the unit’s warranty: 12 months on GAH and Hubbard, 24 months on Thermo King and Zanotti.
- The extras. Standby, side doors, curtains, shelving and recorders all add to the job.
How long it takes
A conversion takes 7 to 10 days from the van arriving at our premises in Burgess Hill.
