How much does a fridge van cost?

A fridge van costs more than the same van without a fridge, because you’re paying for the van, the insulated lining and the refrigeration unit. Here’s what they cost on our own stock, and what moves the price up or down.

Short answer: used fridge vans in our stock are about £23,000 to £40,500 +VAT, and new ones about £30,000 to £53,500 +VAT (electric from about £63,000). Small vans start each range and large freezers end it.

Prices as of October 2026, all +VAT. Stock changes every week, so see our current fridge vans and freezer vans for today’s prices.

Fridge van prices by size

These are the rounded ranges across the converted chiller and freezer vans we have in stock. The lower figure is usually a chiller, the higher one a freezer.

Size Used New
Small (e.g. Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes Citan) about £23,000 to £24,000 about £30,500 to £32,500
Medium (e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Renault Trafic, Mercedes Vito) about £25,000 to £26,500 about £30,000 to £41,000
Large, diesel (e.g. Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, Renault Master) about £28,000 to £40,500 about £31,500 to £53,500
Large, electric (Mercedes eSprinter) none in stock about £63,000 to £65,500

The spread inside each size is mostly the make. A new Maxus Deliver 9 or Citroën Relay chiller sits at the bottom of the large range; a new Mercedes Sprinter freezer sits at the top.

New or used

On like-for-like vans the gap is real money. A 2023 Ford Transit Custom chiller in our stock is £24,995 +VAT. A brand-new 2026 Transit Custom Trend chiller is £34,995 +VAT. That’s about £10,000 for a newer van with full manufacturer’s warranty and your choice of spec.

Our used vans come with a warranty on the van (what’s left of the maker’s, or 12 months, which can be extended), plus 12 or 24 months on the fridge unit. New vans come with the manufacturer’s warranty, plus 12 or 24 months on the fridge unit, depending on its make. More on the trade-off in new or used fridge van.

Chiller or freezer

A freezer van needs thicker insulation and a stronger fridge unit, so it costs more. On our stock the freezer version of the same van is:

  • about £1,000 more on small and medium vans in stock, or £2,500 more on one we find and build to order (for example, a new Ford Transit Custom Trend L1H1 is £34,995 as a chiller and £35,995 as a freezer);
  • about £2,500 more on large vans (for example, a new Ford Transit 350 Trend L3H2 is £41,995 as a chiller and £44,495 as a freezer).

The same gaps hold on our used vans. More in chiller van or freezer van.

What changes the price

The base van

Make, model, length, roof height and trim all count before any fridge goes in. On our stock, a higher roof on a new Ford Transit L3 adds £1,000, and Limited trim over Trend on a new Transit Custom adds £500. Most Mercedes vans cost more than Ford, Renault or Maxus of a similar size. Electric vans cost the most.

The fridge unit

Bigger load spaces and lower temperatures need a more powerful unit. The make matters too, and it decides the warranty on our used vans: 12 months on GAH and Hubbard units, 24 months on Thermo King and Zanotti.

Electric standby

Standby lets the fridge run from the mains with the engine off, so you can load the night before. It’s a different fridge unit, so it costs more, and it has to be specified before the conversion starts. Read do you need electric standby?

Side door

A chiller can keep the van’s own sliding side door, insulated. A freezer that needs side access usually needs a thicker, sealed slab side door instead, which adds to the cost.

Freezer spec

Thicker insulation, a stronger unit and a slab side door are why a freezer costs more than a chiller. A dual-temperature van with a bulkhead costs more again.

Mileage and age

On used vans, the newer the van and the lower the miles, the higher the price. The condition of the fridge unit and the lining matters as much as the van itself, so check both.

Extras

Curtains, shelving, a temperature recorder, load restraint and sign writing all add to the price. See our accessories.
