The Ford Transit Custom and the Mercedes-Benz Vito are two of the most popular medium vans for a fridge or freezer conversion. We’ve fitted fridge and freezer conversions to more than 80 of each over the years. Here’s how they compare as fridge vans, with prices from our stock.

Choose the Transit Custom if…
- price matters most: on our stock it’s the cheaper of the two, new or used;
- you want the widest choice of used vans, in different years, trims and lengths;
- the L1 or L2 length is enough for your round.
Choose the Vito if…
- you want the most load length you can get in a medium van: the Vito comes in three lengths, up to the L3;
- you prefer a Mercedes-Benz, or already run them;
- you want a cancelled-order van with delivery miles, ready now (we have Vito chillers and freezers like that today).
What the conversion changes, whichever you pick
A chiller is lined with 50mm insulation and a freezer with 75mm, so the inside is a little smaller than the bare van and the conversion adds weight. Payload varies with each version, so we check it against what you carry. If you’ll run the fridge with the engine off overnight, ask for standby when you order: it can’t be added afterwards.
