Freezer and deep freeze, explained

How cold do you need to go?

A freezer van runs at −18°C or colder for frozen food. Deep freeze goes down to −25°C for ice cream, anything hard-frozen and some pharmaceutical products. Freezer conversions get 75mm of insulation.

Depending on the fridge unit fitted, our vans run from 0 to 5°C as chillers down to −25°C for deep freeze.

Freezer or deep freeze?

A freezer van holds frozen food at −18°C or colder. Deep freeze goes down to −25°C, for ice cream, anything hard-frozen and some pharmaceutical products. Carrying chilled and frozen together? A fixed or moveable bulkhead splits the van into two compartments.

Insulation and payload

We line freezer vans with 75mm of insulation, against 50mm on a chiller. The thicker lining takes a little load space and adds weight, so we check the payload left after conversion against what you carry before you buy.

New or used?

New freezer vans are cancelled factory orders, or built to your spec with electric standby, a slab side door, partitions or curtains. Used ones are converted and checked by our engineers before delivery, with a warranty on the van (what’s left of the maker’s, or 12 months, which can be extended), plus 12 or 24 months on the fridge unit. Each van’s advert shows when it is ULEZ compliant: a diesel needs to meet Euro 6.

Freezer van questions

Straight answers, before you buy.

What temperature does a freezer van run at?

A freezer van runs at −18°C or colder, for frozen food. A deep freeze van goes down to −25°C, for ice cream, anything hard-frozen and some pharmaceutical products. Depending on the unit fitted, our vans run from 0 to 5°C as chillers down to −25°C for deep freeze.

How is a freezer van different from a fridge van?

A fridge (chiller) van holds 0 to 5°C for meat, dairy, produce, flowers and most catering, and is built with 50mm of insulation. A freezer van gets 75mm. If you only carry chilled goods, see our fridge vans.

Which fridge units do you fit?

Our conversions use fridge units from GAH, Thermo King, Hubbard or Zanotti, and our engineers check every van before it leaves.

Can I get electric standby, side doors or partitions?

Yes. We can source or build what isn’t in stock, including electric standby, side doors, partitions and curtains.

Should I buy a new or used freezer van?

Used vans are converted and checked by our engineers before delivery. New vans are either cancelled factory orders, or built to your spec.

Can I buy on finance, or part-exchange my van?

Yes. Finance is available for business customers from a £500 +VAT deposit, on hire purchase or lease, subject to status. Part exchange is welcome.

Do you deliver, and does it cost extra?

Delivery is free anywhere in the UK, Northern Ireland included.

What warranty comes with the van?

Our used vans come with a warranty on the van (what’s left of the maker’s, or 12 months, which can be extended), plus 12 or 24 months on the fridge unit, and our engineers check every van before it leaves us. New vans come with the manufacturer’s warranty, plus 12 or 24 months on the fridge unit, depending on its make. The only exception is a part-exchange van we’re clearing: those are sold as seen with no warranty, and the advert says so.
