Deep freeze, down to −25°C
A freezer van runs at −10°C. Ice cream and anything hard-frozen needs deep freeze, down to −25°C, which comes from fitting a fridge unit powerful enough to hold it. The conversion keeps the same 75mm insulation as a normal freezer van.
A slab side door, or none
Freezer vans that run at −18°C or below are best with a freezer slab side door, because the insulation they need is too thick for a standard sliding side door. Some customers leave out side access altogether and load through the rear doors only. It’s your choice, depending on how you load.
Options for ice cream
- Freezer slab side door, for proper insulation at −18°C and below.
- Side and rear door curtains, to hold the temperature while the doors are open.
- Electric standby, so the freezer can run with the engine off while the van is parked up and loaded. It has to be specified before the conversion, as it can’t be added afterwards.
- Fixed or moveable bulkhead, if you carry chilled lines as well.
- Load temperature recorder, which prints a receipt as evidence the load was held at the right temperature on the way.
