- Temperature Chiller, 0 to 5°C, for cream and chilled lines
- Size Small for local orders, medium for several shops
- Worth adding Shelving, a bulkhead, curtains
Chilled, frozen or both
A chiller van keeps cream and chilled lines at 0 to 5°C all round. If you deliver frozen dough or frozen desserts, a freezer van may suit you better. If you carry ambient bread and chilled cakes together, a bulkhead can split the load space into an ambient and a chilled section.
Options that suit a bakery
- Shelving, fixed or foldable, so trays and cake boxes travel flat.
- Load lock rails, bolted along the sides, to hold trays and boxes steady.
- Side and rear door curtains, to keep the cold in on every drop.
- Fixed or moveable bulkhead, to keep chilled and ambient lines apart.
- A side loading door, to reach orders at the front without disturbing the rest.
- Electric standby, so the fridge can run with the engine off while the van is parked up and loaded the night before. It has to be specified before the conversion, as it can’t be added afterwards.

The right size
A small van is ideal for local cake deliveries; bakeries supplying several shops or cafés usually go for a medium van. Small vans include the Mercedes Citan and Ford Transit Connect; medium vans the Ford Transit Custom, Renault Trafic and Mercedes Vito; and large vans the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, Renault Master and Citroën Relay. We help you choose by the inside size after conversion and the payload, not just the size of the van.
