The right temperature for what you sell
Fruit, veg, salad, eggs and dairy travel in a chiller van at 0 to 5°C, and so does fresh meat. Frozen meat or ice cream must be kept at −18°C or colder, so it needs deep freeze, down to −25°C. A bulkhead can split the load space so chilled and frozen, or chilled and ambient, travel together in the one van.
Options that suit a farm shop
- Drain hole, so the load floor can be washed out after a market day.
- Side and rear door curtains, to keep the cold in while you serve or unload.
- Fixed or moveable bulkhead, to keep different produce apart.
- Load lock rails, bolted along the sides, to strap crates in place on country lanes.
- Electric standby, so the fridge can run with the engine off while the van is parked up and loaded the night before. It has to be specified before the conversion, as it can’t be added afterwards.
- LED lights, in the load space, for early-morning loading.

Small, medium or large
A small van is ideal for home deliveries and narrow lanes; a medium van suits markets and deliveries to shops; a large van suits wholesale customers. Small vans include the Mercedes Citan and Ford Transit Connect; medium vans the Ford Transit Custom, Renault Trafic and Mercedes Vito; and large vans the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, Renault Master and Citroën Relay. We help you choose by the inside size after conversion and the payload, not just the size of the van.
